I went to the 38th Manila International Book Fair (MIBF) last Thursday and it was heaven. I only wished I could have stayed for longer…alone. I brought my son with me who was happy — very excited — to come but maybe not too happy to stay for longer than four hours in a building packed with fellow book and stationery lovers.
I realize that this post might come a little too late if you’re only learning about the book fair now and you now want to go. In case you don’t or didn’t get to go, the good news is, there’s one every year!
This post exists because I needed to share my excitement over our haul with other like-minded book and stationery geeks out there. And also because my husband won’t hear me gush about books, pens, and notebooks any more than I already have!
I apologize for the amateur quality of these photos because well, I’m an amateur. But I hope you enjoy this post anyway! So without further delay, here’s our haul! Starting out with the books we got from Adarna!
I got a LOT from Adarna but it was all just a little over Php 1,500!
I came to the book fair with the mission to grow our collection of story books in Filipino.
We actually already have the book but it’s severely damaged and the games inside look like fun!
My husband is on a mission to build our Go Bag. Here’s a guide in Filipino to help us to just that and to help us get ready as a family, if disaster strikes.
We already have two of these and these two complete the series 🙂
It’s a book about Filipino culture that even I know very little about. My husband and I will be learning alongside our son for this one!
This one’s very simple to read and…
…the back has this!
Liam picked this one up. We already have the ones about the train and the airplane. So this completes the set.
Love this bundle! More Filipino books, yay!
These are in English but I like that we’ll be learning about architecture and food within the Philippine context
From National Bookstore!
More books in Filipino! These are from Anvil.
Another Filipino book. I chose this one so I can teach my both my son and husband Filipino games!
This is part of a series. It’s by a Filipino author but in English so I initially didn’t want to buy it but Liam insisted. And he rarely asks me to buy books. After reading it, I kinda wish I bought the other two books in the series, too.
Another request from Liam. He doesn’t watch this show but the book has flaps and things to pull. It’s a fun book even if you have no idea who the PJ Masks are.
We finished reading The Little Prince and Fantastic Mr. Fox recently so I was on the lookout for our next chapter books.
Our little one has those Busy Books about London, Paris, New York, and Rome (no other cities available) and he plays with the maps and the little landmark figurines so often and he talks about these places like he’s been there. I wanted to introduce him to even more places and I can see these series being used for years to come.
These were reasonably priced and so cool!
Our first floor puzzle!
Pens! For Mommy!
More stuff for Mommy!
For Mommy ulit!
And just a few more things I’m excited about…
These were the last two things we bought. I wish we had more time to stay and browse. We already have a couple of Chikiting Books and they’re well-made and the stories and artwork are all wonderful. The books are originally only Php 75 but at the fair, they marked it down to Php 60! Next year, this will be one of the first we’ll go to!
I was under the impression that Knowledge Channel was no longer active but I was pleasantly surprised to learn that they are not. The channel follows the schedule of public schools, which means they are only on air from 7:40am to 4:20pm. So thrilled to learn about Kuwentong Pambata. We’ll be tuning in on Tuesday and Thursday mornings!
Freebies! Most are from Lonely Planet from the Lonely Planet Kids series I got.
I’m excited about this these sketchbooks from Limelight. They are so much cheaper than Moleskine, Rhodia, Leuchtturm, Monologue, etc. but they seem to be of good quality. I’ve yet to try them out but the people at their shelves said they’re even good for watercolor!
I think my son and I just started a tradition. We both enjoyed browsing and buying books and toys — and stationery for me, of course! I am already looking forward to next year’s MIBF!
